Survivor Resources
We don’t just want to end conversion therapy in Birmingham. We want to support its survivors throughout the city.
If you are a survivor of conversion therapy in crisis, please make immediate use of the The Trevor Project’s TrevorLifeline (1-866-488-7386), a crisis hotline dedicated to LGBTQ youth. You deserve immediate assistance, and The Trevor Project provides digital services, TrevorChat and TrevorText, to ensure that you get it.
Helping Survivors, an advocacy center and partner of RAINN, aims to assist any individual who has been victimized by sexual assault or abuse. The Helping Survivors website offers ample information around different instances of sexual violence, and it includes resources to support survivors and their families.
The importance of proper mental health care cannot be understated for survivors of conversion therapy. The Association of LGBTQ Psychiatrists has a database through which you can identify affirming mental health professionals in your area.
Many survivors of conversion therapy find refuge and support in faith communities. The GALIP Foundation has a listing through which you can determine affirming Christian congregations nearby.
In Birmingham, the Magic City Acceptance Center (MCAC) provides a local space of support for LGBTQ people. MCAC conducts several youth initiatives and peer groups where you can find support and guidance.
